For over 25 years, lighting designer Chris Pype (b. 1962) has shaped the visual language of leading museums, exhibitions and contemporary art spaces. Beyond his primary work, Chris also specializes in developing lighting master plans for museums and creating bespoke light objects commissioned by artists.
With his team at Chris Pype, Licht, he and his team have established a distinct presence in international art lighting. This achievement is rooted in their ongoing study and exploration of leading museums and exhibitions. The team embraces a culture of continuous learning, keeping pace with industry advancements to ensure they have access to the latest technology. This commitment enables them to deliver tailored lighting solutions that perfectly complement each exhibition’s needs.
For Chris, designing lighting for a museum, exhibition or custom project is about achieving a delicate balance across three core dimensions: the technical and aesthetic qualities of light, the optimal illumination of individual objects, and the overarching narrative conveyed through the lighting. His work enhances both visibility and interpretation; while also deepening the storytelling, emotional tone and visual impact
Through refined lighting, Chris and his team guide the viewer’s gaze to key focal points, make the materiality of each object tangible, create a seamless progression of moods and lead visitors through the museum’s spaces.
